Registry Compatibility

Applies when

A workflow, catalogue entry, identifier, alias, lifecycle state, registry schema, or search-result contract changes.

Required action

  1. Treat JSON registries as discovery metadata and canonical Markdown as procedure or guidance.
  2. Keep canonical IDs permanent; represent renames with globally unique aliases.
  3. Use semantic versions for registry/catalogue contracts and integer major versions for JSON schema contracts.
  4. Mark removals, field-meaning changes, narrower accepted values, alias removal, or changed resolution semantics as breaking changes.
  5. Deprecate before retirement, provide an active same-kind replacement, and retain exact ID and alias resolution after retirement.
  6. Keep organisation overlay namespaces distinct and require explicit loading and pinning.
  7. Regenerate human-readable indexes from JSON; never edit them manually.

Required evidence

Record compatibility classification, introduced/deprecated version, replacement and migration guidance, schema validation, alias-resolution tests, and generated-index checks.

Exceptions

Editorial changes that do not alter discovery, accepted data, lifecycle, or resolution may use a patch contract version. Identifier reuse is never permitted.
